In his first major international competition, Dynamo midfielder Juan Castilla helped guide host nation Colombia to a third-place finish in the CONMEBOL U-20 Championships, punching the nation’s ticket to the U-20 World Cup this summer in Indonesia. Castilla will join teammate Xavier Valdez in Indonesia, as the goalkeeper qualified late last summer with the Dominican Republic.
The Homegrown midfielder was a standout for La Tricolor, starting four games for the host country during the tournament. Castilla additionally saw just under a half-hour of action in the decisive final match of the tournament against Venezuela.
Castilla now returns to Dynamo preseason after a standout 2022 season in MLS NEXT Pro, where he was an anchor in a Dynamo Dos midfield that enjoyed a run to the playoffs in their inaugural campaign. While schedule details for MLS NEXT Pro are yet to be announced, the Dynamo senior team will start their 2023 season on February 25th in Cincinnati.
