MLS NEXT Pro announced the full 2023 regular season schedule earlier today. Houston Dynamo 2 open the regular season against in-state rival Austin FC II on March 24, the first of two road trips to open their second campaign in MLS NEXT Pro. The team returns to Houston to host Colorado Rapids II at AVEVA Stadium for the home opener on April 2 at 6 p.m. CT.
The second-year affiliate of Houston Dynamo FC looks to build off a strong inaugural campaign in MLS NEXT Pro. Dynamo 2 made the MLS NEXT Pro postseason after posting a 14-5-5 (WLD) regular season record and were unbeaten at home with a 10-0-1 (WLD) record. The team finished tied for the fewest goals conceded in the league with 22. The Dynamo 2 defense was particularly dominant at home where they allowed four goals in 11 matches.
Dynamo 2 will play in-state rivals Austin FC II and North Texas SC, six times this season. Houston will host Austin FC II, who is making their MLS NEXT Pro debut this season, once on May 28 and return to the Texas Capital on July 7 for the third and final meeting this season. The first match of the season with North Texas SC is scheduled for May 21 in Arlington and NTSC returns to the Bayou City on Jul. 16. Dynamo 2 will close their home slate of the regular season against North Texas on Sept. 17.
Houston will face two opponents across the span of three weeks that qualified for the playoffs in mid-April when Dynamo 2 travels to St. Louis CITY SC II on April 7. Dynamo 2 host Tacoma Defiance on April 23 at AVEVA Stadium, for the first meeting between both teams since the opening round playoff match on Sept. 24, 2022. Dynamo 2 will visit Tacoma on July 2 to open a two-game road trip.
Seven teams make their MLS NEXT Pro debut in 2023. In addition to Austin FC II, Dynamo 2 will also face LA Galaxy II and LAFC II for the first time this season. Dynamo 2 will travel to Southern California twice during the season to face the West Coast squads, first on June 4 to face the LAFC and again on Sept. 24 to close the regular season against the LA Galaxy.
The opening match against Austin FC II is currently slated to be broadcast on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
