Houston closed a two-game homestand with a 3-1 victory over Minnesota United FC 2 at SaberCats Stadium on Aug. 25 to close Matchweek 24. This was the second consecutive victory for Dynamo 2 after defeating Minnesota 4-1 earlier that week. Both Osumane Sylla and Gabe Segal played key roles in Houston’s back-to-back wins, with the Senegalese midfielder scoring a hat-trick in the first match and Segal adding a brace in the second match. Sylla and Segal now lead the team’s offense with a combined 16 goals and three assists.
Notably, Sylla was named the MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 24 following his dominant offensive performance. In addition to the hat-trick, the midfielder recorded three chances created and 26 successful passes to final third in the two-match stretch.
Goalkeeper Xavier Valdez finished with three saves in the 3-1 victory over MNUFC 2. The Dynamo Academy product will miss this weekend's match after getting called up to the Dominican Republic National Team for the first matches of the 2024-2025 Concacaf Nations League. Additionally, midfielder Sebastian Rodriguez was also called up to compete with the U-18 Mexican National Team in the Slovenia Nations Cup.
Ventura County, LA Galaxy’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, will visit Sunday in third place in the Western Conference with 40 points and 8-6-9 (WLD) record. They won two out of their four games last month including a 3-1 victory over Real Monarchs and a 2-2 draw against Tacoma Defiance in their most recent matches. Forward Aaron Bibout leads the team with eight goals and four assists.
Both sides have already matched up against each other this season, with Houston drawing 1-1 in Southern California on July 5. In 2023, Dynamo 2 split the two-game series with each team winning on the road. Houston’s last triumph against the Galaxy’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate secured them a spot in the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
Dynamo 2 will next hit the road on Friday, Sept. 13 to face off against in-state rivals Austin FC II at Parmer Field.
