Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian capped an impactful day for Houston Dash players as the United States defeated New Zealand 2-0 in their Olympic opener on Tuesday night.
Lloyd opened the scoring for the U.S. in the ninth minute. Lloyd was on the receiving end of a Tobin Heath cross into the box, looping a header across the face of goal and inside the far post for her 89th international goal.
Brian set up the second American goal in the 46th minute, finding Alex Morgan in the box for the forward to slide a shot inside the near post from a tight angle.
All seven Dash Olympians played for their respective national teams, and were involved in five goals throughout the day.
The USA (1-0-0, 3 points) face a test against France on Saturday afternoon, while New Zealand (0-1-0, 0 points) faces Colombia in Group G play.
Lloyd, Morgan and the rest of the Dash players in Brazil return to BBVA Compass Stadium in September. A special Club and Country pack is available at HoustonDashSoccer.com/Tickets to watch them take on Orlando, Boston or Seattle.
