Two games into the 2016 NWSL regular season, fans cannot help but notice how different the current Dash roster looks compared to last year’s. While several of the team’s newest additions, Janine Beckie, Cari Roccaro, and Rachel Daly, to name a few, are experiencing their first year in the NWSL, new addition Becca Moros brings her years of experience to the Dash lineup.
The Dash picked up Moros from Western New York Flash in late March in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. Prior to the Flash, Moros was part of the 2015 NWSL Championship winning FC Kansas City team. When asked how she was settling in with a new team after moving so much in such a small time frame, Moros commented: “Coming into a new environment and getting to know everyone is always a little bit of a stressful situation…So getting a couple of games in really helps [me] to relax, take a deep breath, give [myself] an idea of where I need to build from and how I fit in and stuff, so that’s been good.”
The transition from one team to another has not been the only change Moros has had to deal with recently. Previously an outside back, she has recently moved to center back and noted that the change has been a welcomed one.
“My personality is very much a helper. That’s one of the reasons why I love outside back … and center back is also like that," she said. "You’re just constantly organizing, problem solving. All mistakes aren’t created equal, so you make sure you don’t make the worst kind and you help your teammates all around you.”
As for her new teammates, particularly the youngest Dash players, the self-proclaimed “natural-born teacher” enjoys being surrounded by so many fresh and eager players and hopes to help them in any way she can: “I love seeing them grow. I care about their performances. If I see something that’s ‘hey, you might like this,’ I’m going to share it.” She was quick to point out that the rookies are a positive influence on her as well: “They’re full of energy and they help me and they challenge me every day as a player, as well, so it’s a very reciprocal relationship, and it’s a very rewarding one.”
