The group stage officially ended last night for Concacaf Olympic Qualifiers and our four Dash players involved had a successful night.
Canada kicked off the evening first, taking on Mexico. Forward Nichelle Prince and midfielder Sophie Schmidt earned starts for the match, both of them playing the full 90 in Canada’s 2-0 victory. Canada topped the group and advanced to the semifinals in Los Angeles later this week.
Jamaica faced off against St. Kitts & Nevis right after, ending their tournament run on a high with their first win of the tournament. Forward Kayla McCoy earned her first start, and she added the cherry on top with a brace to close out the 7-0 victory. These were McCoy’s first career goals for Jamaica.
Qualifiers continue at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles later this week. Prince, Schmidt, defender Allysha Chapman and Canada take on Costa Rica on Friday, February 7 at 6 pm CDT. The winner will qualify for Tokyo 2020 and will advance to the final, facing the winner of USA vs Mexico on Sunday, February 9 at 5 pm CDT.
