The Houston Dash have acquired French forward Valérie Gauvin in a trade with the North Carolina Courage, the clubs announced today. Houston will send $25,000 in Allocation Money to North Carolina and a conditional 2024 second round draft pick.
Gauvin joined the Courage in March after signing from Everton FC, where she scored five goals and tallied an assist in 15 appearances for the FA Super League club in 2021. She spent six seasons with Montpellier of D1 Féminine, the top French women’s soccer league, and helped them qualify for the 2017-2018 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“We are thrilled to welcome Valérie to the Houston Dash as an important addition to our club,” Dash president Jessica O’Neill said. “As a proven goal scorer with international experience, she will help us maximize the opportunity we have to secure the first playoff appearance in Dash history.”
Gauvin has represented the French National Team since 2015 when she made her senior debut against the Netherlands in October of that year. The Sainte-Clotilde, Réunion native has scored 17 goals in 37 career appearances for France. Gauvin was also named to the 2019 Women’s World Cup roster where she represented the host nation.
The forward will report to Houston this week as Houston prepares to host the Washington Spirit at PNC Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 27.
