The Houston Dash fell 3-0 to the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park Wednesday evening as the Texas club returned to league action for the first time since March 30.
Chicago jumped to an early lead in the seventh minute after an own goal from DF Kristie Mewis. Mewis attempted to clear a cross from Chicago FW Sarah Gordon, but her effort to clear the ball finished in the back of her own goal.
Four minutes later, Dash GK Jane Campbell saved a shot from Chicago FW Sofia Huerta, but the rebound fell to Chicago MF Lauren Kaskie outside the six-yard box. Her effort snuck under the Houston goalkeeper at the near post for the second goal of the game.
The final goal of the game came in the 74th minute as Red Stars MF Danielle Colaprico's cross found Huerta inside the box, where she headed the ball past Campbell at the far post.
Houston's best opportunity of the first half came after FW Thembi Kagatlana forced a save in the 22nd minute with a shot from outside the box that was saved at the near post by Red Stars GK Alyssa Naeher. This was Kagatlana's debut with the club after missing the first two games securing her visa.
Dash FW Lindsay Agnew entered at halftime and generated Houston's first scoring threat of the second half as she found FW Savannah Jordan running into the box. Agnew’s low cross evaded a diving Naeher, but was eventually cleared by Chicago.
Houston will travel to Florida for its second game of the week as they face the Orlando Pride for the first time this season at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. The match will be streamed live on the Go90 app and NWSLSoccer.com for international fans.
