Defender Deneisha Blackwood named to the Jamaican Women’s National Team provisional roster for 2021 WNT Summer Series

Houston DashdefenderDeneisha Blackwoodwas named to the Jamaican Women’s National Team provisional roster for the 2021 WNT Summer Series, the Jamaican Football Federation announced today.


Blackwood and the Reggae Girlz are set to open the summer series at BBVA Stadium on June 10 when they take on Nigeria at 4:30 p.m. CT. Jamaica will then face the U.S. Women’s National Team on June 13 at 9:00 p.m. CT in the Dash’s home stadium.


Blackwood, 24, was acquired by Houston on January 26, 2021 as a free agent. The defender made her Dash debut on April 26 when Houston traveled to the Pacific West Coast to play OL Reign, coming off the bench as a sub in the 79th minute to tally 11 minutes under her belt. 


In 2020, the Kingston, Jamaica native spent the Fall Series with the Orlando Pride making appearances in all four games and finished with 196 minutes. Before joining the Pride on a short-term contract, Blackwood spent a season with Slavia Prague in the Czech First Division, logging nine appearances. 


At the international level, Blackwood has represented Jamaica since 2011, beginning at the U-17 level. Her senior debut came at the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship Qualifiers, where Jamaica qualified for the 2019 FIFA World Cup. At the World Cup, Blackwood played every minute for Jamaica in the team’s three games against Australia, Brazil and Italy. She has scored three goals for Jamaica’s senior team.
