As part of the upcoming Dynamo Charities Weekend, we’re highlighting the impact Dynamo Charities has had on our community through the lens of its four pillars. This is Part Three: Cancer Support and Awareness.
Perhaps one of the biggest focuses of the organization, Dynamo Charities prides itself on being a beacon for hope, information, and support for those suffering with cancer in the greater Houston Area.. Houston is home to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the world’s most respected centers devoted to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. MD Anderson, also the club’s jersey partner, is a key collaborator in Dynamo Charities’ cancer-focused initiatives.
Alongside MD Anderson, Dynamo Charities is proud to celebrate Kick Childhood Cancer and host events every September. From specialized league jerseys to local activations that run concurrent with MLS Works initiatives, September has proven to be a highly impactful month for both our partnership and this pillar within Dynamo Charities.
Beyond the month of September, Dynamo Charities and MD Anderson have hosted annual blood drives at PNC Stadium. Additionally, Dynamo Charities is a proud supporter of the MD Anderson Boot Walk to End Cancer. “Team Hold It Down” has raised over $56,000 to date.
Further, Dynamo Charities has worked with organizations like Make-A-Wish, Sunshine Kids, and Big Love Cancer Center to make an impact on those who are currently battling all forms of cancer. Most recently, Houston Dash goalkeeping coach Matt Lampson, who himself is a survivor of cancer, has worked with Dynamo Charities to bring a “Lampstrong Hero” to every Dash home game at PNC Stadium this season.
