Houston Dash defenders Lindsay Agnew and Allysha Chapman, midfielder Sophie Schmidt and forward Nichelle Prince wrapped up 2019 action with the Canada Women’s National Team in Shanghai, China for the Four Nations Tournament.
They opened the tournament against Brazil on November 7, where they fell 4-0. Agnew and Schmidt played the full match while Prince came on as a substitute in the 59th minute. This was Nichelle Prince’s return to the pitch after suffering a season-ending injury this season.
Canada then closed out the tournament on November 10 with a 3-0 win over New Zealand. Schmidt and Chapman earned starts with Schmidt playing the full match and Chapman playing for the first half. Prince came on as a substitute in the 42nd minute and Agnew made her appearance in the 83rd to close out the game.
With 2019 coming to an end, Canada’s focus will now be on the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament starting on January 28. Canada has been placed in Group B of the qualifying tournament and will face Mexico, Jamaica and St. Kitts & Nevis at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas.
The top two teams in the group will advance to the semifinals in Carson, California. The winners of each semifinal will qualify for the Olympics and for the tournament championship game.
