We caught up with the NWSL Player of the Week for Week 4, Chioma Ubogagu, for a hard-hitting interview about superpowers, karaoke and more. Is Chi on Team Gryffindor or Hufflepuff? What's on her bucket list? Read below to find out.
Who is your hero?
My mother, she’s a God-fearing woman that always puts others in front of her and she is very selfless. It is really admirable.
What motivates you to work hard?
I have set goals and I want to achieve them. You do that every day when you train or come out, get the ball and get better. Every day you can get better in some aspect. You’re never perfect so you should never stop working.
Describe your perfect day.
In an alternate universe I would wake up and I’d be served a proper English breakfast in bed by my robotic maid while the men’s World Cup is on. Then I would go train with my best friend, Thierry Henry.
If I'm looking at this from a practical point of view, I'd get up, train, lounge by the pool afterwards and meet up some friends for dinner.
What would you sing at karaoke?
Miley Cyrus – “The Climb”
If you could only eat one meal the rest of your life what would it be?
I am going to go with something Nigerian, so let’s go with jollof rice. It’s like an orange or yellow rice that is tomato based with chicken.
If you could have one superpower what would it be?
The one from Jumper, the movie, where the guy can think of a place he wants to go to and he appears there. So, it’s not like flying or running fast, he just literally transports and I think that would save a ton of time in everything.
What’s your favorite soccer movie?
Green Street Hooligans.
What’s your favorite book?
My favorite series is Harry Potter but if I just want to read one book I’ll go with The Fault in Our Stars. I'm definitely in Gryffindor. Is that even a question?
Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?
Yes, Chi and Chi-Chi are the most common nicknames.
What is one place in the world you would like to visit?
I’d like to see South Africa, there are a lot of different cities I want to visit there.
Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?
“No one is good enough to play Chi,” – Evan Alvarez
I was almost going to say Sandra Bullock but Janine beat me to it. I’ll go with Viola Davis, she is a very powerful actress.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
If I’m focusing on the next 5-10 years, I’d say play in a World Cup.
