The Houston Dash acquired goalkeeper Lindsey Harris as a free agent, the club announced today.
A Texas native who was born in Houston and grew up in Austin, Harris joins the Dash after completing a successful three-year stint in Europe. The 26-year-old first joined the Icelandic side FH in January 2017 where she dropped the club’s goals-against average by more than 35 percent.
After her first professional year, Harris was acquired by Norwegian club Klepp, where she led the team to a spot in the UEFA Champions League and a second-place finish in Norway’s Toppserien league table. Harris played every minute of every game in Europe, earning 70 professional starts in three years and was named the 2019 Toppserien Goalkeeper of the Year.
The goalkeeper completed five years at the University of North Carolina, earning the starting goalkeeper position as a senior in 2016 after redshirting her freshman year and playing a vital role in a goalkeeper rotation. During her freshman season in 2012, Harris was part of the squad that earned the university’s 21st NCAA Championship, teaming with current Dash co-captains Kealia Ohai and Amber Brooks that season. She was also named to the Dean’s list that year and earned a spot on the 2012-13 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Harris broke the program record of saves in a season with 90 as a senior in 2016, making a career-high of eight saves in an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal match to lift the Tar Heels over South Carolina.
Harris joins a Houston team that finished the 2019 season with a 7-5-12 record under first-year head coach James Clarkson. The Dash expect to kick off their 2020 campaign in mid-April. The 2020 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
With this transaction, the Dash now have 23 players on their active roster ahead of the 2020 NWSL season.
