The Houston Dash acquired Kristie Mewis and future considerations to be named later, in a trade with the Chicago Red Stars for Morgan Brian and future considerations if certain criteria are met, the club announced today.
Mewis will join Houston prior to Sunday’s game in Frisco, Texas against Seattle Reign FC. The midfielder joined Chicago on Aug. 21 in a trade with the Washington Spirit and scored three goals and tallied an assist in 15 games this year.
The Boston College alumna began her professional career in 2013 after FC Kansas City selected her with the third overall selection in the NWSL College Draft. Mewis scored one goal in 20 appearances during her rookie season. The midfielder was traded to the Boston Breakers the following season and she scored 10 goals and tallied five assists over three seasons with her hometown club.
The Hanson, Massachusetts native has earned 15 caps with the U.S. Women’s National Team. The midfielder also has experience with the youth national team, including one goal in four starts at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Brian tallied three assists in 33 games for the Dash over three years. The midfielder was selected by the Dash with the first overall selection in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. Brian appeared in 10 games, nine starts, for Houston this season.
