The Houston Dash seek their first road victory of the season this weekend as they travel to the capitol area to face the Washington Spirit at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
The Dash look to rebound after suffering their first loss of the season last week at Seattle. Dash rookie goalkeeper Jane Campbell made her professional debut against Seattle, and defender Camille Levin made her debut for Houston after being acquired from Orlando earlier in the week. Defender Poliana scored her first goal of the season and matched her tally from last season.
Houston has not won in Maryland and holds a 1-6-1 overall record against the Spirit. The Spirit swept the series last season with a 1-0 victory at the Maryland SoccerPlex and a 2-1 victory in Houston. Houston’s only victory in the series came in the opening week of the 2015 season as the Dash defeated the Spirit 2-0 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Washington is led by Canadian international Shelina Zadorsky and features her teammate from the Canadian Women’s National Team Stephanie Labbé and Nigerian international Francisca Ordega. The Spirit will be without Kelsey Wys, Caprice Dudasco, Cali Farquharson, Joanna Lohman and Cheyna Williams – all key players in their run to the 2016 NWSL Championship game.
The Spirit look for their first win at home after falling to the North Carolina Courage 1-0 in the opening weekend of the season. The Spirit secured their first point of the year last weekend with a 1-1 draw at Orlando in the Lifetime NWSL Game of the Week.
