The Houston Dash defeated Louisiana State University 5-1 earlier this evening at Houston Sports Park.
Thursday’s match marked the final tune up for the Dash before the start of the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup. With the victory the Dash finish the preseason with 3-0-0 record following their triumphs over TCU and Pumas Femenil in Mexico.
Dash forward Rachel Daly opened the scoring in the fifth minute from the penalty spot. Houston was awarded the spot kick after forward Nichelle Prince suffered a foul inside the box. A few minutes later Prince added to the lead with a goal of her own from outside the six-yard box in the ninth minute.
Forward María Sánchez extended the Dash lead to 3-0 midway in the first half. Daly completed the brace with her second goal of the day in the 29th minute to extend Houston’s lead to 4-0. Forward Makamae Gomera-Stevens scored the final goal of the night in the second half, her first of the preseason.
LSU scored a goal late in the second half to get on the board and avoid the shutout.
The Dash open their competitive calendar with the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup on March 20 when they host the Chicago Red Stars at 6 p.m. CT at PNC Stadium. For the full Challenge Cup schedule, tickets and additional information, visit HoustonDash.com.
