The Houston Dash will face FC Dallas’ Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team in a friendly match at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2 on Tundra Field 2 in the Toyota Soccer Center. This will be the last tune-up for the Dash as they return to National Women’s Soccer League play on June 12 against Seattle Reign FC.
“This is perfect for us because we want to keep our playing rhythm during this window and this game gives us that opportunity,” Dash head coach Randy Waldrum said. “This is not the first time we’ve played them; we went up there during our expansion year and the place was packed. We are really excited about this trip.”
This is FC Dallas’ inaugural season in the WPSL and they are coached by Waldrum’s son, Ben Waldrum. Their roster features five Dash amateur players: Monica Alvarado, Bianca Brinson, Tessa Gavilsky, Chelsey Strother and Caroline Van Slambrouck. Brinson had an assist on Strother’s goal in FC Dallas’ 8-0 win over Texas Titans last Saturday.
“When we look at the big picture, for us this is an opportunity to raise the awareness of the sport at the next level,” Ben Waldrum said. “Youth soccer is massive (in north Texas), we are one of the hotbeds in the country. The only thing we feel is missing is the professional piece. This is a step in that direction and it is really exciting that our club has moved forward with this endeavor.”
Fans that wish to attend the match on Tundra Field 2 must present a ticket for the FC Dallas vs. Houston Dynamo match later that evening at Toyota Stadium (8 p.m.). Seating is available on a first come, first-served basis. Tickets for the doubleheader start at $22 and can be purchased by calling 888-FCD-GOAL (323-4625).
The Dash return to BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday, June 19 to host the two-time reigning NWSL Champion FC Kansas City. For tickets or additional information, visit HoustonDashSoccer.com/tickets.
