Houston Dash forward Kealia Ohai was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 17 of the 2016 NWSL season.
Ohai, 24, tallied four goals in two games last week to take over the league scoring lead. The forward opened the week with two goals to help the Dash earn a 3-1 win against the Boston Breakers Wednesday at Jordan Field in Boston and notched two more against the Orlando Pride Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium to help the Dash win 4-2.
The Draper, Utah native scored her first goal of the week in the third minute against Boston when she received a pass from Dash forward Carli Lloyd inside the box and shot it far post past the hands of Breakers goalkeeper Jami Kranich.
The University of North Carolina product scored her most impressive goal of the week against Orlando in the 62nd minute when she maneuvered the ball around Pride defender Josée Bélanger outside the eighteen and shot the ball far post past the hands of Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.
Ohai played 82 minutes in the game against Boston and all 90 minutes in the game against Orlando. She finished with twelve shots (eight on goal) for the week.
It is the second time Ohai has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week, and is the sixth time a member of the Dash has won the award.
The Houston Dash return to action Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00 p.m. ET against Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.
