Houston Dash forwards Janine Beckie and Nichelle Prince were named to the Canada Women’s National Team in preparation for a friendly against Mexico on Saturday, Feb. 4 and a closed-door match on Feb. 7, Canada Soccer announced earlier today.
The first match is a Bronze Medal Celebration Match in Vancouver at BC Place. The match against Mexico and Houston Dash teammate Bianca Henninger will be the first match for Beckie and Prince with Canada since they claimed the bronze medal at the Olympic Games last summer. Three days later the CanWNT conclude their camp in a closed-door match.
Beckie has scored 12 goals and tallied two assists in 25 appearances for the CanWNT, including three goals at the Olympic Games in Brazil last summer. The 22-year-old scored three goals and tallied two assists in her rookie season for Houston. The forward was selected by the Dash with the eighth pick at the 2016 NWSL College Draft out of Texas Tech University.
Prince, the No. 28 overall pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft, won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games last summer with new Dash teammate Beckie. The defender has scored six goals and tallied four assists in 21 appearances for the CanWNT. The 21-year-old played collegiately at Ohio State University and finished her collegiate career with 27 goals and 20 assists in 72 games for the Buckeyes.
