The Houston Dash will take on the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday for the team’s first road match of the year. The Dash faced the Red Stars four times across all competitions last year and finished with a 2-2-0 (WLD) record.
Houston’s two wins over the Red Stars came during the regular season, including a crucial 1-0 win on the road in Bridgeview late in the season that kept the team in the hunt for a playoff berth. During the 2022 regular season, Houston boasted a 7-2-2 road record. The Dash captured key wins in Portland, Seattle and North Carolina, which helped Houston make its first ever playoff appearance.
Houston bolstered its roster with key additions including forward Diana Ordonez, who made her Dash debut last weekend against Racing Louisville FC. Ordonez, who scored 11 goals as a rookie last season, had two shots on target during Houston’s clean sheet. Returning for the 2023 season was forward Ebony Salmon, who scored nine goals for the Dash and like Ordonez had two shots on target during Sunday’s match. Dash assistant coach Sarah Lowdon said earlier this week that the coaching staff if looking forward to watching the partnership between Ordonez and Salmon grow.
Dash head coach Sam Laity said following Houston’s home opener against Racing Louisville FC that aspects of the team’s development showed promise during the first match of the season. Goalkeeper Jane Campbell earned her 23rd career shutout in the draw and made five saves in the match.
