The Houston Dash have received Canadian defender Allysha Chapman as an allocated national team player ahead of the 2015 NWSL season, the league announced today.
In addition to Chapman, the full allocated list for the Dash consists of Americans Carli Lloyd and Meghan Klingenberg as well as Canadians Erin McLeod and Lauren Sesselmann. Furthermore, midfielder Kaylyn Kyle has been reallocated to Portland Thorns FC and midfielder Teresa Noyola was not allocated this season has been removed from the roster. Midfielder Kelly McFarlane has also been waived.
Chapman, 25, has earned five caps with the Canada Women’s National Team and is currently with the team at the Four Nations Tournament in China. She made her senior team debut against Japan in October 2014. The Courtice, Ontario, native was part of the Canada U-20 squad that won the gold medal at the 2008 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championships and appeared at the 2008 FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup in Chile.
The defender joins the Dash after playing three seasons in Sweden, most recently with Eskilstuna United DFF in the Damallsvenskan. After a decorated career at Louisiana State University, Chapman joined IK Sirius FK in the Elitettan (Swedish second division) and helped the club concede the fewest goals in the league in both 2012 and 2013 en route to back-to-back top three finishes. In total, Chapman appeared in 60 matches and scored five goals during her three years abroad.
