The Houston Dash have acquired Austrian forward Nina Burger pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and ITC, the club announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Burger, 26, joins the Dash from Austrian club SV Neulengbach, where she has played since 2005. Burger scored 226 goals in her nine years with Neulengbach, claiming the league scoring title six times from 2006-12, and was voted player of the year in 2010. She currently tops the ÖFB Fraunliga scoring charts for the 2013-14 season with 20 goals in 12 games.
Burger has competed in the UEFA Women’s Champion’s League and its predecessor, the UEFA Women’s Cup, with Neulengbach in every season since joining the team in 2005. Burger scored six goals in this year’s competition, eventually falling to Tyresö FF and future Dash teammates Whitney Engen and Meghan Klingenberg in the quarterfinals.
“I’m really excited about adding Nina to our roster, as this has been in the works for some time now,” head coach Randy Waldrum said. “She has a great track record of scoring goals both for club and country. She adds a dimension to our attack that we need, and her international experience will be important to our young side.
“Along with the addition of Kaylyn Kyle this week, we are starting to add some additional international experience to the team, which we need in order to achieve the goals we’ve set for this season. I am definitely excited to add Nina to the Dash family.”
The Tulln an der Donau, Austria, native is the second-most capped player for the Austrian Women’s National Football Team with 58 since 2005. Her 32 international goals are the most all-time for the Austrian national team.
Burger will join the team ahead of Saturday’s home match against FC Kansas City, but is not expected to be available for selection. Tickets for Saturday’s match, which will kick off at 7 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium, are available by clicking here or by calling (713) 276-GOAL.
