The Houston Dash returned from the international break this afternoon and fell 1-0 to Racing Louisville FC at Lynn Family Stadium.
Louisville took the lead midway through the second half after Ebony Salmon dribbled around two Dash defenders at the top of the box. Salmon’s game-winning effort in the 71st minute was also her first professional goal.
Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell was called into action in the 9th minute as she made a save on Lauren Milliet’s effort from the edge of the box. The Dash shot stopper finished with four saves.
Houston tested Louisville goalkeeper Michele Betos with two long-range efforts in the 14th minute, beginning with Sophie Schmidt’s effort that just missed the inside of the far post. Shea Groom forced a save seconds later with an effort from outside the box.
Groom forced a save again in 33rd minute, Betos’ touch on her header bounced off the crossbar to an oncoming Maria Sanchez who found the back of the net. Her effort was ruled offside, but Sanchez knocked on the door again four minutes later with an effort from inside the box that went wide of the far post.
Jasmyne Spencer was denied in the 85th minute by the Louisville backline and two minutes later the forward found forward Veronica Latsko inside the box. Latsko’s effort was save by Betos and the rebound was quickly cleared by the Louisville defense. Houston finished with eight shots on goal and forced seven saves from the Louisville shot stopper.
