International play continued on this weekend and all four Dash players on international duty were in on the action. Canada is currently competing in the Tournoi de France while England is competing in the SheBelieves Cup.
Our trio of Canadians took on World Cup finalists, the Netherlands, on Saturday, March 7. Midfielder Sophie Schmidt and defender Allysha Chapman started the match. It was plenty of back and forth in the first half, but neither team could break through. Schmidt was subbed off at the start of the second half while forward Nichelle Prince checks in. Within moments of joining the attack, Prince was fouled by the Netherlands goalkeeper just outside the box. The keeper was sent off, but Canada could not capitalize on the set piece. Action picked up after, but despite having the player advantage, Canada tied the match 0-0 with the Netherlands.
On Sunday, March 7, forward Rachel Daly earned the start for England as they faced off against Japan. Daly played the full 90 at right back, and her presence was very clear on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. In a very exciting matchup, England was able to break through late in the 83rd minute with a goal from Ellen White.
Each country wraps up their tournament play this coming week. Canada plays Brazil on Tuesday, March 10 at 12:00 pm CST. England wraps up the SheBelieves Cup against Spain on Wednesday, March 11 at 4:15 pm CST. England’s match will be streamed on ESPN3.
