Our international players wrapped up tournament play this week. Canadian forward Nichelle Prince, midfielder Sophie Schmidt and defender Allysha Chapman were competing in Tournoi de France while England forward Rachel Daly was competing in the SheBelieves Cup.
Despite a tough start to the tournament, Canada was able to get back on their feet for their final match. Schmidt earned the start, while Prince and Chapman came off the bench at the start of the second half. Canada went down 2-0 in the first half but were able to find their footing and make a comeback in the second. Prince assisted in Canada’s first goal in the 74th minute, getting end line and playing a ball to Diana Matheson for the finish. Canada found the equalizer in the 87th for a final score of 2-2.
Last night, Daly earned another start for the Lionesses. Wrapping up the tournament against Spain, it was a tale of two halves. England had quite a few chances all throughout the first 45, but it was Spain who shone through in the dying minutes of the match when forward Alexia Putellas was able to head one home. Daly played the full match for England, who came in third in the SheBelieves Cup.
