HOUSTON (March 1, 2024) – Houston Dynamo FC will commemorate the life of Maggie McKethan, the esteemed FOX26 producer who tragically passed away earlier this week, in a special ceremony preceding Saturday’s match versus the New York Red Bulls.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. CT following the team entrances, the Club will share a short tribute with those in attendance at Shell Energy Stadium to recognize McKethan’s contributions to the city of Houston and the sport of soccer. A moment of silence will follow, and Dynamo players will include a personalized jersey in the Starting XI photo.
In remembrance of McKethan, Houston Dynamo and Dash Charities will establish a scholarship in her name, with the proceeds from March’s in-stadium 50/50 raffles being awarded to a young woman aspiring to pursue a career in sports journalism. The matches in March include contests against the New York Red Bulls (March 2), Portland Timbers (March 16) and San Jose Earthquakes (March 30).
To honor her memory, a matchday memorial will be arranged in the press box, occupying McKethan’s customary seat No. 41. The memorial will consist of a framed photo, flowers, a personalized jersey and a journal where fellow media members can pen personal messages and share memories. Media are welcome to bring their own flowers or gifts on matchday. The Club will share the journal and gifts with McKethan’s family.
