With league play on break, seven Houston Dash players are currently representing their national teams all around the world. There are many major tournaments coming up in the women’s game next month, and each country is preparing accordingly.
Dash forward Rachel Daly earned her 50th appearance for England against the Netherlands on Friday afternoon. Daly started at left back for England at her hometown stadium, Elland Road in Leeds. England put on a dominate performing in their 5-1 victory over the Dutch. Daly logged 82 minutes in England’s win.
Daly and England will host the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 next month, facing off against Austria, Norway and Nothern Ireland in the group stage. The full schedule can be found here.
Forward Michaela Abam and Cameroon faced off against France on Saturday afternoon. France came out strong, putting on a 4-0 performance in front of their home crowd.
Abam and Cameroon will now head to Morocco for the Women’s AFCON 2022 in hopes of advancing to FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers later this year. The full schedule can be found here.
Forward María Sánchez earned the start for Mexico against Peru on Saturday evening. Despite the back and forth in the first half, Mexico shined in the second half to come out with a convincing 5-1 victory. Sánchez scored in the opening minute of the second half, ripping a left-footed shot past the keeper from the top of the box.
Sánchez and Mexico will now travel to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon where they will host the Concacaf W Qualifiers. They will face off against Jamaica, Haiti and the United States in group play.
Forward Nichelle Prince, midfielder Sophie Schmidt and defender Allysha Chapman had one last tune up in Canada against Korea Republic. Schmidt was celebrated before the match for reaching 200 appearances for Canada last year. Prince came off the bench in the 75th minute in front of her hometown to add a spark to Canada’s attack. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Prince, Schmidt and Chapman will head to Monterrey, Mexico for the Concacaf W Qualifiers. They will face off against Trinity and Tobago, Haiti and Costa Rica in group play. The full schedule can be found here.
Michelle Alozie and Nigeria have been training for most of June in preparation for the Women’s AFCON 2022 tournament. Nigeria will face South Africa, Botswana and Burundi. The full schedule can be found here.
Meanwhile, the Houston Dash will resume NWSL play on Friday, July 1 at 7:30 pm CT when they host the Kansas City Current. Tickets are available here.
Internationals are expected back with the squad at the end of July, once their respective tournaments are complete.
