Houston Dash midfielder Sofia Huerta will compete in Australia’s W-League during the NWSL offseason to play for Sydney FC for the second consecutive year.
Huerta has been an essential piece for the Dash in the attacking midfield this season. Alongside forward Rachel Daly, Huerta leads the team with five goals, three of which were game winners. Huerta scored five goals and tallied four assists in 12 games for Houston during the 2018 campaign after joining the Dash in June via a trade with the Chicago Red Stars. The midfielder finished the 2018 season with eight goals and six assists overall.
In the W-League, Huerta has also proven to be a standout, having scored 12 goals in two seasons. This will be the third loan to the W-League for the Boise, Idaho native. Last year, the midfielder helped Sydney FC win the 2018-19 season in a 4-2 victory over the Perth Glory. She scored eight goals for Adelaide United during the 2016-17 campaign.
Huerta will be available for selection next weekend as Houston travels to Monterrey, Mexico to take on Tigres U.A.N.L. at 9:15 p.m. CDT on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Estadio Universitario for the first time in NWSL history. The match will streamed life on Tigre’s Facebook and Twitter social media platforms. She will also be available for Houston’s season finale at Utah Royals FC on Saturday, Oct. 12 before departing for Australia.
