Houston Dash defender Allysha Chapman, forward* Nichelle Prince* and midfielder Sophie Schmidt were named to the Canadian Women’s National Team 22-player roster for a two-game Celebration Tour, Canada Soccer announced today.
Canada will face New Zealand in a pair of friendlies to celebrate the program’s gold medal run at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. This is the first gold medal for the program and entered the tournament with back-to-back bronze medals in the competition. The Dash trio will join Canada on Oct. 23 in Ottawa and close the series with New Zealand in Montreal on Oct. 26
Chapman has represented Canada in two FIFA Women’s World Cups, playing every minute in five games during the team’s quarterfinal run on home soil in 2015 and appearing in all four games of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The defender has earned 66 starts in 83 appearances for Canada, scoring one goal and providing three assists. A key part of Houston’s backline, Chapman has earned 67 caps in four seasons with Houston.
Prince has scored 12 goals and tallied 13 assists in her 72 career appearances for Canada. The forward lifted Canada over New Zealand with her first World Cup goal on June 15, 2019, helping Canada qualify for the knockout round. Prince joined Houston in 2017 and has 72 appearances tallying eight goals and seven assists with the club. The forward most recently scored Houston’s 4-0 victory against Louisville on Sept. 26.
One of Canada’s veterans, Schmidt first joined the national team since 2005 and made her fourth World Cup appearance in France during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Schmidt has 206 senior caps for Canada and has tallied 19 goals and 20 assists. Schmidt was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame on October 23, 2019.
