For the second consecutive year, Sydney FC punched its ticket to the W-League Grand Final. Sofia Huerta scored a goal in Sunday’s 2-1 victory for the Sky Blues over Clare Polkinghorne and Brisbane Roar.
Sydney pounced first late in the first half when Caitlin Foord beat two defenders and struck from inside the box to give the Sky Blues a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. Sydney would strike again in the second half when the Dash’s own Sofia Huerta ripped one from inside the box in the 68th minute, giving the team a 2-0 lead. Huerta would go the full 90 for the Sky Blues.
Brisbane would pull one back in stoppage time when Yuki Nagasato fired a shot from outside the box in the 92nd minute. Captain Clare Polkinghorne played the full match for the Roar.
Sydney FC will now host Sam Kerr and Perth Glory, who defeated Melbourne Victory 4-2 after 120 minutes, in the Grand Final this Saturday, February 16.
