Sofia Huerta and Sydney FC fell to Melbourne City FC 3-1 on Friday morning in a rematch of the 2018 Grand Final. Huerta played 90 minutes in the back line as a right back winning more than half of her 14 duels (eight duels won) and finished with seven clearances. Offensively, Huerta forced a save in the 83rd minute with a left-footed shot that was handled in the bottom corner of the near post. Kyah Simon did not dress for Melbourne due to an achilles injury.
Clare Polkinghorne logged a full shift as Brisbane Roar picked up their first victory of the year. Carson Pickett’s strike late in the first half gave Brisbane a 1-0 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers at Marconi Stadium.
Amber Brooks, Veronica Latsko and Adelaide United had a bye and will return to action at 11 p.m. CDT on Saturday Nov. 17 against Polkinghorne and Brisbane Roar at Lions Stadium.
