The draw for the 2012 Generation adidas Cup, held August 3-9 in Seattle, has been announced. The Houston Dynamo Academy, presented by Statoil, will send two teams to participate in this premiere tournament.
The Dynamo U-17 team was placed in Group A along with academy sides from the Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes and New York Red Bulls. The U-15 squad will play Chivas USA, Seattle Sounders II and Real Salt Lake in Group C.
The Generation adidas Cup is an annual youth tournament for MLS academy teams at the U-17 and U-15 level. Fourteen MLS Academy teams will compete at the U-17 level and twelve teams from eleven different MLS clubs will be present for the U-15 portion.
The Dynamo Academy U-17 team has been a part of every Generation adidas Cup since it was established in 2007 as the SUM U-17 Cup. The U-15 team, which was recently crowned champion of the Texas Pre-Academy League, will be participating for the second year in a row.
