HOU_Academy_Josue_Soto_SMU

The men's college soccer season continued last weekend, with several Dynamo Academy players making major contributions to their squads. The 2010 season marks the first group of college seniors who spent time in the Dynamo Academy, so college soccer is especially worth watching to see which players might be drafted or even signed prior to the draft in the 2010-11 offseason.

Below is a report on Dynamo Academy players this weekend, sorted by year of eligibility:

Seniors
Daniel Roberts, MF/FW, UNC-Wilmington (Fort Bend Clements) Dynamo bio | UNCW bio

Roberts started in midfield and set up the only goal of the match against Central Florida on Friday in just the 10th minute when his shot was blocked, but he fed the rebound to teammate Etienne Boulanger for a half-volley. Roberts left the game in the 33rd minute due to injury and did not return all weekend, but No. UNC-Wilmington held on to beat UCF 1-0 and edge Winthrop 1-0 on Sunday without Roberts. The Seahawks, who have dropped out of the Top 25, play at Campbell on Wednesday before hosting Duke in a big game on September 21.

Josue Soto, MF, SMU (PrepaTec, Mexico) Dynamo bio | SMU bio

Soto started and played 57 minutes in a 1-0 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Friday. He then lifted the Mustangs to victory with a goal and game-winning assist against Western Illinois on Sunday. Soto converted a penalty kick in just the second minute for his first goal of the season, then set up freshman Juan Castillo (Humble Kingwood Park) for the game-winning goal in the 47th minute, Castillo's third consecutive game-winning goal. SMU, now ranked 18th nationally, will face a step up in competition at the Bradley Tournament this weekend, facing Creighton and Bradley.

Juniors
Alex Dixon, FW, North Carolina (Humble Atascocita) Dynamo bio | UNC bio

Dixon helped No. 4 UNC earn the biggest win of its young season with a 1-0 win at rival North Carolina State on Saturday. Dixon broke free down the left and fired a shot that was saved, but the Tar Heels eventually converted the rebound for the only goal of the game. Dixon came off the bench as North Carolina used only 13 players in the match, but he played the final 68 minutes and had three shots.

Clayton Holz, MF, Stanford (St. John's) Dynamo bio | Stanford bio

Holz appeared in one of two games as Stanford suffered two dramatic losses, falling in overtime to UNLV on Friday and losing with 18 seconds remaining in regulation to Sacramento State on Sunday.
