Houston Dynamo FC forward Aliyu Ibrahim was named to MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday roster for Matchday 5, the league announced today. The Dynamo defeated the Portland Timbers 1-0 at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday to earn their first MLS win of the season and their third consecutive victory versus the Timbers.
Ibrahim scored the match winner in the 43rd minute following midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla’sspectacular cross with the outside of his foot. A Portland defender attempted to clear the ball, but the 22-year-old Nigerian was well positioned to capitalize on the loose ball for his second goal of the season. Ibrahim led the team with three shots and six dribbles during Saturday’s match.
The forward also recorded an assist in Houston’s home opener versus Sporting Kansas City on February 24, heading the ball across the face of goal to an unmarked Gabe Segal, who finished the play by heading the ball toward the opposite side of the goal.
After traveling to face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, March 23, the Dynamo return home on Saturday, March 30 to host the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. CT at Shell Energy Stadium.
