At Hightower High School, soccer isn't the primary sport for Black athletes.
Even then, I wanted to show that Black kids can play soccer. It isn't only football and basketball. Soccer, tennis - you can play what you want to, especially in a diverse city like Houston.
It means a lot to be able to do that. But I wouldn't be able to without those who came before me.
Black History Month means everything to me. It's a special month where I get to remember those who worked to give me the opportunities I have today.
People like Martin Luther King, Jr.
Malcom X.
The Black Panthers.
Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in baseball. Without him especially, I wouldn't have the chance to play professional sports.
Without all of them, I would not be able to do what I do today.
I always remember those individuals and am thankful for the work they did so I can be where I am today.
To represent my city.
To play professional soccer.
