Happy October! I hope you are doing well and enjoying this amazing fall weather. I have a bunch of random topics for this week’s blog. I’ll dive right in …
The 2010 season ticket package included a first round playoff game. With the Dynamo out of the 2010 playoffs, we have established the following policy on the unused playoff tickets: Fans may exchange their paid playoff tickets for any Dynamo regular season game in 2011 or any of the two remaining regular season games in 2010. Seats are based on availability and honored at the same value. Please email cccoffey@houstondynamo.com or tsimmons@houstondynamo.com if you have any questions or want to make an exchange.
I am hosting a series of “town hall” meetings with season ticket holders. The meetings give me a chance to speak to small groups of fans and provide inside information about the stadium, team, etc. The first session was last week, and I believe it was very informative and beneficial for those in attendance. The next meeting is on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 12 noon in our office (at the George R. Brown Convention Center). Space is still available. If you would like to attend, please email cccoffey@houstondynamo.com or tsimmons@houstondynamo.com. Other meetings will be scheduled over the next few months.
We are also conducting season ticket focus groups. These sessions filled up quickly and are maxed out. Our goal is to hear from you and gather information and input to help shape our future plans. Thanks to those who signed up and volunteered their free time for the sessions.
We are planning a season ticket holder party following the Seattle game on Oct. 23. It is a 3 p.m. kickoff, so the party will start around 5 p.m. Save the date. More details will follow soon.
This is a busy time for the Dynamo in the community.
Habitat for Humanity is constructing a home with the $75,000 raised by The House That Ching Built. Brian Chingspearheaded the effort, and Dynamo Charities assisted in raising the necessary funds. I appreciate Brian’s commitment to the community and thank everyone who made donations or volunteered in the process.
Sunday is Breast Cancer Awareness Day when we take on the NE Revolution (7:30 p.m.) We are doing a series of things throughout the match to raise awareness for breast cancer, and there is a special ticket package that is raising money for the Methodist Cancer Center. The package is only $20 and includes and T-shirt and a chance to meet Bobby Boswell after the game, who is the team spokesman for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Last week, we kicked off the second season of our Soccer for Success program. Soccer for Success is an after-school soccer program that Dynamo Charities organized in partnership with HISD and Houston Parks & Recreation. The U.S. Soccer Foundation provided a major grant to help fund it. More than 1,500 kids from 15 HISD schools participate in the program, which provides a safe after-school activity while teaching the importance of fitness and nutrition. Corey Ashe is the team spokesman.
I am off to PPL Park and Red Bull Arena later this week to gather ideas for our new stadium. These site visits are helpful. We learn best practices and also identify mistakes that we want to avoid.
Thanks for reading. As always, send your questions and comments to ccanetti@houstondynamo.com.
