In a shock move to many, MLS and USMNT great Landon Donovan returned to the LA Galaxy on Thursday after having announced his retirement from professional soccer in 2014. Houston Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley, who played with Donovan since their days together at the U.S. U-17 residency program in Bradenton, Florida, was not among those surprised.

“Yeah, I knew Larry [Landon] couldn’t stay away," the four-time World Cup veteran said. "It’ll be exciting for him, for everybody. I think everyone thought that he left too early, so we’ll be excited to see him back in the league, however long he stays. But it’ll be fun to watch him play again.”

Beasley will get to share the field with his friend for the first time in over three years on October 16 at BBVA Compass Stadium, when the Galaxy come to Houston in the final game of the MLS regular season (TICKETS). The two last played together on October 11, 2013 in a World Cup qualifier against Jamaica , and the Dynamo did not face LA after Beasley joined the Dynamo in the summer of 2014 before Donovan's retirement.

“It’ll be pretty cool," Beasley said of the matchup. "It’s always fun to play against competition that’s as high level and talented as that, so it’ll be good to face him again and see him on the pitch one more time.”
