The Houston Dynamo earned a second consecutive road tie and posted their first shutout since May 14 in a 0-0 draw with the defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids on Sunday night. Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall posted six saves for his third shutout of the season.
With the tie, Houston’s lead in the all-time series moved to 8-5-4, including playoff games. The Dynamo return home for their next three games, league contests against Toronto FC on July 9 and Sporting Kansas City on July 16 and the third annual Dynamo Charities Cup against Bolton Wanderers on July 20.
GAME NIGHT:
DYNAMO 0, COLORADO 0
In Sunday’s match, most of the best offensive opportunities fell to Colorado, with Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall making several key stops to keep the Rapids off the scoreboard. Hall’s best stop came in the 80th minute, when he tipped a close-range Drew Moor header over the crossbar. Hall followed that up with a dive to his right to save a Quincy Amarikwa shot from a tight angle. Hall also made a key play in the 44th minute, coming out of goal to deflect a dangerous cross from Caleb Folan.
For the Dynamo, the shutout was their third of the season in 18 games and their first since May 14, breaking a streak of seven consecutive games without a shutout. Houston is now 0-3-6 in road games this year, earning ties in two-thirds of the game. The Dynamo have allowed just 10 goals in nine road games for a 1.11 GA, among the top five in the league.
The Dynamo used the same lineup as in last week’s tie against D.C. United. Midfielder Lovel Palmer came on in the 78th minute for his first substitute appearance of the season. Rookie forward Will Bruin started and played 61 minutes, becoming the only Dynamo player to appear in all 19 games this season in all competitions.
Midfielder Brad Davis appeared in his 240th career MLS game. forward Brian Ching made the 145th start of his MLS career, defender Corey Ashe played in his 115th career MLS game, and midfielder Geoff Cameron played in his 85th career MLS game.
The Dynamo played without forwards Calen Carr (concussion) and Cam Weaver (hip strain) and defender Eddie Robinson (MCL sprain).
