The Houston Dynamo fell 3-0 to Sporting Kansas City Saturday afternoon, recovering from a slow start only to see a potential tying shot hit the post and suffer a second-half red card. Kansas City added two goals with the Dynamo down to 10 players to move five points clear of Houston in the Eastern Conference standings.
Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis made the 250th appearance of his MLS career, becoming the third-youngest player in league history to reach that mark, following Kyle Beckerman and Landon Donovan. Davis is the 35th player in MLS history to play in 250 regular season games.

Kansas City controlled the game’s first 15 minutes and took the lead in the ninth minute when a Graham Zusi long ball found Teal Bunbury behind the Houston back line, and the second-year forward used the outside of his right foot to poke a shot behind Tally Hall to give Kansas City the lead. Houston allowed the first goal for the 17th time in 28 games this season.
Houston recovered from the slow start to outshoot Kansas City 6-3 over the final part of the first half and had a great chance to tie the game when Carlo Costly’s shot hit the right post in the 30th minute. Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen also appeared to handle the ball outside of the penalty area in the 39th minute, but the violation went uncalled.
Houston continued to carry play in the second half, but the game turned in the 64th minute when Carlo Costly was ejected after catching Chance Myers’ shin with a sliding tackle. The red card was the fifth time this year Houston has played shorthanded, while the Dynamo have not had a numerical advantage in any game this season.
Kansas City put the game away with two counter-attack goals in the final 17 minutes, as Teal Bunbury scored in the 73rd minute, and C.J. Sapong tapped in a back-post cross in the 79th minute. The Dynamo are now 0-6-8 in road games this season.
Midfielder Luiz Camargo made his competitive Dynamo and MLS debut, coming on as an 81st-minute substitute. Houston defender Corey Ashe made the 70th start of his MLS career and his 160th career appearance for the Dynamo in all competitions, fifth in club history. Midfielder Geoff Cameron made the 95th appearance of his MLS career, and midfielder Colin Clark started the 85th match of his MLS career.
The Dynamo played without midfielder Alex Dixon (finger fracture) and defenders Bobby Boswell (yellow card accumulation) and Eddie Robinson (quad).
