Dynamo Academy kicks off Dallas Cup on Sunday

A week after the Dynamo went to Frisco for the annual Texas Derby, the Dynamo Academy, presented by Statoil, will make the trek up I-45 for the annual Dallas Cup, an international competition featuring the top clubs from around the world.

The two-time champion Dynamo Academy will send four teams to the Dallas Cup: U-18s, U-16s, U-14s and a team from the Dynamo South Texas Academy.

With a month off before their next league game, the Dynamo Academy squads will look to use the Dallas Cup matches to not only leave a mark on the international scene, but to stay fresh for the home stretch of the season.

The Dynamo U-16s enter the Dallas Cup in first place in the USSDA Frontier Division with a 15-3-1 record. The Dynamo U-18s are tied for second in their division with an 11-4-4 and a 1.95 points per game average.

Due to age requirements, the Dynamo Academy team competing in the U-15 age group is a mix of U-14 and U-15 players.

Each team will play three group games, with the winner of each group advancing to the quarterfinals.

The Dynamo have twice won a championship at the Dallas Cup. In 2010, current Duquesne forward Isaiah Noreiga scored two goals in the championship game to give the U-16s the title. In 2008, the Dynamo U-19s defeated IMG Academy 2-1 to bring home the title back to Houston.
