The Stanford Cardinal and former Dynamo Academy midfielder Bryce Marion claimed the NCAA Division I National Championship over Wake Forest at BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Stanford also won the title in 2015, making them the first back-to-back champions since Indiana in 2003-04. After a scoreless draw in regulation and extra time, the Cardinal took down Wake Forest 5-4 in penalties. Stanford did not allow a single goal over the course of the NCAA Tournament.
Marion, a junior from Cypress, started all 23 games for Stanford in 2016. He was named honorable mention All-Pac-12, scoring once and tallying four assists.
