The Houston Dynamo Academy, presented by Statoil, swept their matches with Classics Elite on Saturday at the Houston Amateur Sports Park. The Dynamo U-16s defeated Classics 5-0 while the Dynamo U-18s won 4-1.
Manuel Chavez (pictured, right) led the Dynamo U-18s with a hat trick, as the club won its third straight match to improve to 9-3-3 on the season. Chavez scored goals in the eighth, 25th and 47th minutes. Christian Diaz also tallied for Houston, firing a free kick off a Classics defender minutes before halftime to give the Dynamo a 3-1 lead at the break.
The Dynamo are now tied on points with the Dallas Texans for first place in the U-17/18 Frontier Division. The Dallas Texans hold an edge in the points per game category having played one fewer game. The two teams will meet in Dallas this weekend, with sole posession of first place on the line.
In the second match of Saturday's doubleheader, the Dynamo U-16s scored early and often en route to a 5-0 win over Classics Elite. Matthew Dorsey and Jose Duarte scored goals in the 13th and 22nd minute, respectively, to give Houston a 2-0 lead going into halftime. The Dynamo continued to press in the second half and sealed the match with goals from Julius Montano, Josue Palomino and Lisandro Sanchez Cane. The goals for Dorsey, Montano and Sanchez Cane were their first goals of the season.
The Dynamo U-16s have won four in a row and have outscored their opponents 15-5 during that stretch. Houston is currently in second place in the U-15/16 Frontier Divsion, three points behind Solar Chelsea, but with a game in hand.
Both teams will travel to Dallas this weekend for matches against Dallas Texans. The U-18s will kick off Saturday at 2 p.m. with the U-16s to follow at 4:30 p.m. All matches will be played at the University of Texas at Dallas.
