The Houston Dynamo have acquired Brazilian midfielder Luiz Camargo on loan from Brazilian club Paraná Clube, it was announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Camargo will become eligible upon receipt of his international transfer certificate and approval of a P-1 visa.
Camargo, 24, first came to the Dynamo’s attention when he was seen by Houston head coach Dominic Kinnear in an offseason scouting trip. He has appeared in more than 40 games for Paraná over the last three Serie B seasons in Brazil and also competed in the Paranaense state championship tournament.
“We are very happy to add Luiz to the team,” Kinnear said. “He’s a versatile player who can perform well in a number of positions, something that should add depth to our squad. We look forward to bringing him to Houston and have him contribute as we make a push toward the MLS Cup playoffs.”
Born in Vinheda, São Paulo, Camargo’s career has included stints with Mogi Mirim, Red Bull Brasil, São Paulo, and Paulista.
Currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, the Dynamo return home on Sunday, August 14, to host expansion club Portland Timbers at 8 p.m. at Robertson Stadium. Tickets are available by calling (713) 276-GOAL or logging on to HoustonDynamo.com.
