Houston Dynamo FC defeated Atletico San Luis in the Dynamo Charities Cup presented by PNC by a final score of 1-0. This was the 11th edition of the Dynamo Charities Cup and the first since 2018. With the win, Houston improved its record in the Charities Cup to 6-5.
Forward Tyler Pasher gave Houston the lead in the 50th minute after Adam Lundkvist found the Canadian winger in space. Pasher dribbled into the box and snuck a shot past the San Luis goalkeeper at the far post. Dynamo forward Darwin Quintero forced a save in the opening minutes of the game. The Dynamo attacker dribbled into the box, but his effort was punched out of play by the San Luis goalkeeper at the near post.
Juan Manuel Sanabria forced back-to-back saves from Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark in the seventh minute with a shot from outside the box. Sanabria followed up a minute later and his effort was handled by Clark who finished with 2 saves against San Luis.
Quintero found Memo Rodriguez at the edge of the box in the 10th minute and the Dynamo Academy alum forced a save at the near post. The rebound fell to Rodriguez, but his follow up went over the crossbar.
Houston hit the crossbar in the 37th minute after Thiago found Quintero at the back post. The Colombian playmaker took to the air and made great contact with the ball, but his effort bounced off the woodwork.
Houston’s final opportunity of the half came off the right foot of defender Ethan Bartlow, who forced a comfortable save with an effort from outside the box in the 45th minute.
Andres Iniestra nearly scored the equalizer for San Luis in the 62nd minute off a cross that found the midfielder inside the box, his header just missed the inside of the far post.
Dynamo forward Corey Baird forced a save a minute later with a shot from inside the box, but his effort went right to the San Luis goalkeeper.
The Dynamo return to league play on Saturday, June 18 in Florida against Orlando City SC. The match will air live on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest in English and in Spanish on TeleXitos 47.2. Houston will return to PNC Stadium on June 25 to host Xherdan Shaqiri and Chicago Fire FC.
