Houston Dynamo FC captain Héctor Herrera was named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of Matchday roster for Matchday 24, the league announced today.
Herrera created three chances and tallied two assists in Houston’s 2-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Saturday at Shell Energy Stadium. The midfielder has now tallied an assist in four consecutive games, becoming the second player in team history to reach that mark. Former Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis tallied an assist in four consecutive games during the 2014 season.
The Dynamo captain has led the club’s resurgence this year with the team currently occupying a playoff spot in the Western Conference. His contributions on both sides of the field have helped the Dynamo post a 9-1-2 record at Shell Energy Stadium in all competitions this year and a historically strong defensive record with only five goals surrendered at home in 12 games in all competitions.
Herrera returns to the Team of the Matchday for the fifth time this season. Herrera is one of seven Dynamo players named to the matchday team this year. Steve Clark (Matchday 11), defender Daniel Steres (Matchday 9), forward Amine Bassi (Matchday 7), defender Franco Escobar (Matchday 7 and 18), forward Thor Úlfarsson (Matchday 20) and midfielder Artur (Matchday 5) earned the award earlier this season.
The team opens the week at Shell Energy Stadium against Minnesota United FC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, July 12. The Dynamo close the week on the road against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, July 15.
