Houston Dynamo FC captain Héctor Herrera, defender Franco Escobar and assistant coach Brendan Burke were named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of Matchday for Matchday 18, the league announced today.
The Dynamo defeated LAFC 4-0 at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday with goals from Nelson Quiñónes, Amine Bassi, Corey Baird and Escobar. The team earned their sixth clean sheet of the season on Saturday and the Dynamo has only conceded two goals at home this campaign. That is the lowest mark in team history and only the third time in league history that a team has conceded two or less goals in the first eight home matches of a season.
Herrera returns to the Team of the Matchday for the third time this season. Escobar received the honor earlier this season after the Dynamo defeated the LA Galaxy 3-0 at home on April 8. Escobar and Herrera are two of the six Dynamo players named to the matchday team this season. Steve Clark (Matchday 11), defender Daniel Steres (Matchday 9), Bassi (Matchday 7) and midfielder Artur (Matchday 5) earned the award earlier this season.
Burke joined the Dynamo earlier this year after serving as the head coach of the Colorado Switchbacks in the USL Championship. He led the team on Saturday following a one-game suspension for head coach Ben Olsen for yellow card accumulation.
The team travels to Southern California on Wednesday to face LAFC at BMO Stadium. The Dynamo return to Shell Energy Stadium on June 21 to face the San Jose Earthquakes for 713 Night. Tickets for the match start at $7 and fans can enjoy $3 beers and $1 hot dogs throughout the evening.
