Houston Dynamo FC dropped a 2-0 decision on the road to Minnesota United FC this evening at Allianz Field.
Minnesota scored the opening goal in the 15th minute after Dynamo goalkeeper Marko Marić saved an effort from Will Trapp. The rebound fell to winger Robin Lod outside the six-yard box at the near post for a one-touch finish.
The Loons doubled their lead in the 71st minute after midfielder Emanuel Reynoso found defender Brent Kallman near the six-yard box for his second goal of the season.
Marić was called into duty in the opening minutes of the game when he saved Emanuel Reynoso’s free kick at the top corner of the near post. The Dynamo shot stopper finished with four saves against the Loons, including a brilliant diving save to keep another free kick from Reynoso out of the top corner in the 65th minute.
The Dynamo forced a save from Minnesota goalkeeper Tyler Miller in the 25th minute. The Loons backline cleared a free kick and the second ball fell to midfielder Memo Rodriguez outside the box, but his effort was handled by the Loons goalkeeper just outside the goal line.
Dynamo midfielder Matías Vera just missed the bottom of the crossbar in the 31st minute with an effort from outside the box. Vera had Houston’s best chance to level things at a goal apiece in the 66th minute when left back Sam Junqua found him racing into the box. The Argentine’s sliding effort from point-blank range caught Miller’s foot, denying the Dynamo an equalizer.
Panamanian midfielder Adalberto “Coco” Carrasquilla and American midfielder Ian Hoffmann each made their Major League Soccer debuts this evening. Hoffmann joined the Dynamo prior to this season and recently captained the Dynamo U23 side in its inaugural game, while Carrasquilla was signed on loan from FC Cartagena in Spain on Thursday.
Houston will host five of their next six games at home beginning with their match against the Colorado Rapids at BBVA Stadium at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 14.
