Houston Dynamo FC forward Amine Bassi and defender Franco Escobar were named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of Matchday for Matchday 7, the league announced today.
Bassi and Escobar join midfielders Héctor Herrera (Matchday 4) and Artur (Matchday 5) as Dynamo players named to the team this season, playing key roles in Houston securing three points against the LA Galaxy at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday.
Bassi made history during the match, becoming the first player in MLS history to score a penalty kick in four consecutive games. The 25-year-old scored a second goal following a pass from forward Corey Baird to secure the 3-0 victory and earn Man of the Match honors. Defensively, Bassi won possession seven times, while winning four duels. He has started four of his five appearances this season, totaling 352 minutes.
Escobar finished the match with two interceptions and won possession a team-leading eight times. The six-year MLS veteran also won six duels and four tackles to help Houston secure its third consecutive shutout victory at home to start the season. Offensively, the six-year MLS veteran added one shot inside the box. Escobar has started two of his three appearances this season, totaling 207 minutes.
