Houston Dynamo FC forward Sebastián Ferreira was named the MLS Player of the Week, presented by Continental, the league announced this afternoon.
Ferreira scored the opening goal and assisted on the other two in Houston’s 3-0 victory over the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday evening. The 24-year-old is the first Dynamo player to contribute to three goals in a single game since forward Darwin Quintero led the team to a 5-3 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Aug. 25, 2020.
This is also the first Player of the Week honor for Ferreira and the first for a Dynamo player since Erick “Cubo” Torres won the award in April 2017. He joins former Dynamo forward Will Bruin (2011) as the only Dynamo players to earn Player of the Week accolades in their first season in MLS.
The Paraguayan international currently leads the team with six goals across all competitions (regular season and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup) and is now tied with defender Adam Lundkvist for the most assists on the team at three. Ferreira has scored three goals and tallied two assists in his last five outings for the team.
Additionally, Ferreira and Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark were named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week earlier today. Clark tallied his fourth clean sheet of the season and finished with six saves against the Galaxy on Sunday.
The Dynamo travel to Kansas on Wednesday to face Sporting Kansas City in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT and fans can stream the game live on ESPN +. Houston returns to league play on Saturday, May 28 at Real Salt Lake. That contest is slated for an 8:30 p.m. kick and will be televised locally in English on AT&T SportsNet Southwest 2 and in Spanish on TeleXitos
