The first day of eMLS League Series 1 (LS1) qualifiers took place on Tuesday, and the Dynamo’s newest eSports athlete did not waste any time showing the Houston fanbase his skills on the virtual pitch.
Over his eight-match opening day, Adamou went 5-2-1 to finish with 16 points overall, a total that has him seated in sixth place out of 27 competitors. League Series 1 play continues tonight, with League Series 2 set for January 29 and 30.
Following the completion of the two eMLS League Series, the top 11 players will automatically advance to eMLS Cup, which will take place on Sunday, March 13th. If that wasn’t motivation enough, the top eight players from the LS1 qualifying rounds will move on to a knockout round this weekend for a chance to compete for their share of a $20,000 prize pool.
In the opening match of the day, Adamou took on current MLS-champion NYCFC’s “NYC Gustavo.” Gustavo proved himself to be a worthy opponent, as the score was tied up until the 87th minute, when Adamou broke through with a goal to go up 2-1. After taking the lead, Adamou switched his formation to a more defensive 4-3-2-1 until the final whistle blew.
While each match matters equally in the standings, Adamou’s second match of the day came with some additional motivation as the Queens, New York native was taking on his former club, New York Red Bulls. Once again, Adamou came out on top with a 3-1 victory over NYRB.
Adamou finished the day with a scoreless draw against “Savvy Panda” from LAFC. The 20-year-old will be back in action tonight when he opens the second round of qualifiers against Orlando City SC at 5:00 PM CT.
Tonight's round of fixtures can be streamed live on the club's Twitch feed.
